Virus Checking Software

Explain

Virus Checking Software is often referred to as an anti-virus because the software first checks the system for the viruses and is able to get rid of those viruses. It also detects when viruses are trying to install themselves on a computer and prevents this process from completion by deleting the files, and not allowing them access to change settings etc. Virus Checking Software will run all the time on a computer in the background in search for activity which may cause the computer harm. This software will also need to be updated regularly because it will download new information which has been found about viruses and where to look etc. Full scans of the computer, or quick scans, can be started with a click of a button. These scans will look out for malicious content stored on the computers and systems. Systems and data are much more secure when Virus Checking Software is installed because it means that no viruses can steal information from the system. All of the data on the system is safe from attacks. Some Virus Checking Software will also come with firewalls, such as Symantec.

Example

Vodafone will use Virus Checking Software on their networks, however it will be put on individual machines (clients) and then bundled together using the network. This will make sure that all computers are protected and not just a handful. By doing this, Vodafone is safer because they are less vulnerable and prone to attacks in comparison to if they didn’t have this type of protection. For example, if Vodafone has no type of Virus checking Software, any employee could accidently install a virus and that virus could use keylogging software. This could be potentially dangerous to customer and organisation because the hacker controlling the keylogging software would have information on both the company and the customer. Installing the Virus Checking Software will prevent this from being an issue.
